Zapper Edge's AI Harness Stack
Enterprise AI is only as safe as its weakest layer. Our AI harness engineering puts control at all seven, from the model at the base to the people who use it, so nothing is left to chance.
Seven layers, one harness. Open any layer to see what we deliver, the technology behind it and the outcome for your business.

Ten harnesses
Start with one, fit the ones you need, or fit them all.
Control
Decide who, what and which model.
Policy harness
Set who can use which model, with which data, and enforce it on every request.
Model routing harness
Send each task to the right model, frontier, open-weight or small, by cost, risk and data sensitivity.
Data transfer harness
Secure, compliance-ready transfer and transformation of the data that feeds and leaves your AI systems.
Safety
Stop bad inputs, bad outputs and bad actors.
Guardrails harness
Block prompt injection, mask personal data and filter unsafe or off-policy answers before they reach people.
Security harness
Protect keys, data and access with Zero Trust identity, encryption and isolation inside your own environment.
Evaluation harness
Test model quality and safety on your own tasks, and catch regressions when a model or prompt changes.
Operate and prove
See it, cap it, keep it running, and prove it.
Observability harness
Trace every request across models and tools, with logs, latency and quality signals your teams can act on.
Cost and token harness
Track token use by team and project, set budgets and limits, and stop runaway spend before the invoice.
Reliability harness
Handle timeouts, rate limits and bad responses with retries, fallbacks to another model, and clean failure.
Audit harness
Keep a record of prompts, data access and outputs that you can hand to a regulator.
How it works
From first model to audited production.
Choose your models
Select frontier, open-weight or small models for each use case. Change them later without rebuilding.
Fit the controls
Connect the controls you need, from policy and guardrails to observability and cost, around the models inside your own environment.
Run with evidence
Ship AI to teams with logs and controls that map to the frameworks you answer to.
Questions
AI harness engineering, answered.
What is AI harness engineering?
AI harness engineering is the design and build of everything around an AI model that lets it do useful work inside a business: the context it receives, the tools it can use, the workflows it follows, the security and policy controls on it, the evaluation of its output, and the interfaces people use to work with it.
Why do enterprise AI systems need a harness?
Because a capable model alone does not deliver business value safely. Enterprises need to control who can use which model with which data, check inputs and outputs, connect the model to their own systems, measure quality, cap cost and keep a record for auditors. The harness provides those controls on every request, so AI can run on real data in production instead of staying a demo.
What is the difference between an LLM and an AI harness?
The LLM is the engine: it reads a prompt and produces an answer. The AI harness is the system around it: context and memory, agent orchestration, tools, safety and policy controls, evaluation, observability and the user interface. You can change the LLM and keep the harness, so your controls do not have to be rebuilt each time a better model arrives.
What does an enterprise AI harness include?
Zapper Edge's AI Harness Stack has seven layers: model and inference, context and memory management, agent runtime and orchestration, tools and execution environment, safety and policy controls, evaluation and observability, and the product and user interface. Inside it run ten harnesses, from policy, model routing and guardrails to security, cost, reliability and audit.
How does AI harness engineering improve reliability?
It handles the failures a model cannot handle on its own. The reliability harness retries, falls back to another model or fails cleanly when a model times out or returns something unusable. Evaluation catches regressions before release, guardrails stop bad outputs reaching people, and observability traces every call so problems are found from evidence rather than support tickets.
How is it different from building an AI model?
Model development creates or adapts the model itself. Harness engineering builds the system around the model: how it gets information, calls tools, runs tasks, follows policy and produces results you can check. Some projects need both a customised model and a harness. Many only need a harness around an existing model.
